William Cunningham Rankin

William Cunningham Rankin was born c. 1859 in Glasgow, 1 where he worked for various insurance firms. In 1885 he was at the Queen Insurance Co. and living at 28 Belmont Gardens, Hillhead; by 1890 he was district manager of the Economic Fire Office Ltd; by 1895 he had become assistant manager at the Norwich Union Fire Office. By 1899 he was resident secretary of the Lancashire Insurance Co. at 133 West George Street, and was living at 1 Elmwood Gardens, Jordanhill; and by 1905 he had risen to become manager of the Glasgow branch of the Royal Insurance Company, and was living at Netherlea, Partick. 2
