Mackintosh designed fittings and decoration for Miss Catherine (Kate) Cranston's White Cockade café at the 1911 Scottish Exhibition of National History, Art and Industry held in Kelvingrove Park from 3 May to 4 November. The café was located in the S. wing of the W.-facing Garden Club building. Its outdoor terrace overlooked the exhibition amphitheatre and park pond. The Club and all exhibition buildings were designed by architect Robert Walker. 1 The White Cockade café menus were designed by Margaret Macdonald. 2
Authorship: Miss Cranston was one of Mackintosh's most important patrons, commissioning him regularly over a 20-year period. It is highly likely, despite the limited documentary evidence, that Mackintosh was responsible for the design. The job book entry is entirely in his hand.
