This project is known only from a 1906 review of an exhibition of competition entries for the Institute of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland's new building. The reviewer considered that Honeyman, Keppie & Mackintosh's design 'would have made a very fine if somewhat original building'. The competition was restricted to architects practising in Glasgow and the 43 entries were exhibited at Wellesley Buildings, Sauchiehall Street. Adjudicator George Washington Browne placed the design of Mitchell & Whitelaw first. However, the Institute's own competition committee overruled this decision and selected the design of John Bennie Wilson instead. 1

Authorship: There is insufficient evidence to link the design with Mackintosh.
