Design for an unidentified studio

M336 Design for an unidentified studio

Date: 1919
Authorship: Authorship category 1 (Mackintosh) (Mackintosh)

In a letter of August 1919 to his patron and supporter William Davidson, Mackintosh wrote of the effect of the First World War on the cost of building: 'I have drawn out plans of a studio for the wife of one of Vickers managers. This in normal times would have cost between £3500 & £4000 whereas I have got a rough estimate of £11000 and of course people are staggered.' 1 No visual evidence for this design has been found, and the client has not been identified.

Authorship: Mackintosh himself described having worked on this project.
